The Luxury of Living in Season
seasonal nourishment + crafting a summer intention
Being in-season is a long forgotten luxury. A market tomato in June far outshines one sold in the bitter days of January. There is a potency found in seasonal living. A sacred reverence, an awareness of the cyclical nature of creation. There are spirals that stretch the ages of history, marking our years by the moon, our months by fertility — an unending spiral of remembrance.
Summer marks the peak of fertility — earth + sky blooming with life, daylight staying awake a little longer as an invitation to linger. Warm days invite your skin to drink up the golden warmth of the sun. Ripe fruit begs to be picked. There is freedom to explore, to risk, to create, to embrace the energetic fullness of the season.
For me, this summer is about nourishment + growth as we await baby no. 02 early this fall. It’s about leaning in, letting my skin drink up the summer sun, hydrating herbal elixirs, feasting on produce in-season. There is a maternal quality about this season, a reminder of the femininity, softness, wildness and fruitfulness of motherhood. Alongside of the presence of the moment, there is a wisdom of looking towards autumn, building up stores energetically and nutritionally.
In this season of abundance + wildness, grace-filled intention can serve as a loving hand on your sun warmed back, beckoning you back into your body, into the flow of the moment. Intention allows for space to get caught up in the moment, trusting that there will be time.
YOUR SUMMER INTENTION
01. Who do I want to be?
02. How do I want to spend these days?
03. What fruit do I want to harvest?
04. Where can I lean in?
05. What can I let go of?
06. Where can I romanticize the mundane?
Midsummer Moodboard — how to curate yours
Take your answers to those questions + encapsulate them into a moment. Maybe it’s literal like strawberry picking with your kids, or maybe it’s something more figurative, like falling in love with yourself. Take a deep breath, rest into your body and FEEL what images come up. The art of visualizing is key to crafting the moments you want to create. Create a moodboard in whatever medium feels right — maybe it’s a sketched out bucket list on the back of a napkin or a collage of old magazine cutouts. I like Pinterest or Cosmos to find visual, photo inspiration and then journaling intentions alongside for a tactile, somatic entry.
